Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team took game three of the series against Fort Hays 6-3, before dropping game four 11-4. The Bearcats collected 19 hits between the two games, scoring seven runs.
In game three the Bearcats came out of the gate with their bats swinging.
Tyler Christophel led the game off by hitting a single to left field, and was then sacrificed over to second by
Spencer Blacksher.
Drew Miller and
Bo Helsel followed with back-to-back singles, plating Christophel on Helsel's single, and giving SBU a 1-0 lead. After a
Ross Wolfe walk to load the bases,
Jeremiah Bryan singled through the left side to bring home Miller and Helsel.
Jacob Estes then doubled to center field, bringing home Wolfe, followed by Bryan scoring off of an rbi groundout by
Brendon Cox. The Bearcats would add another run in the third off of an rbi single from Estes, putting SBU up 6-0. Fort Hays would mount a small comeback, but the Bearcats shut then down, taking game three 6-3.
In the second game of the day Fort Hays jumped out to a 2-0 lead after three, but the Bearcats would respond in the bottom of the fifth when
Landon Young singled down the left field line to bring home Estes, cutting the lead in half. However, Fort Hays would score five in the seventh and four in the eighth, with the Bearcats getting a run of their own in the bottom half of the seventh off of an rbi double by Bryan, putting Fort Hays up 11-2 going into the ninth. The Bearcats had a small rally, scoring runs off of rbi singles from Estes and
Cody Crutcher, but it wasn't enough as SBU dropped game four 11-4.
The Bearcats will return to action on Friday, April 27 when they travel to Missouri Western for a match-up with the Griffons. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m. from St. Joseph, Missouri.
