Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team picked up a big sweep against Missouri Southern on Wednesday afternoon in Bolivar as they took game one 4-3 and game two 4-2. The Bearcats rode solid pitching efforts from Jessica Colliver and Alexa Harvey, and timely hitting from Harvey and Lamle for the sweep. The Bearcats now move to 15-27 (6-12 MIAA) on the season.

Jessica Colliver threw an excellent game one for the Bearcats, pitching a complete game while working out of a couple of different jams. The Bearcats were the first to strike in the bottom of the third inning. With two outs, BreAnn Proctor started things off with a single up the middle. Kassy Williamson then singled to center field, followed by another single by Jennifer Martinez which plated Proctor to put SBU up 1-0. After Colliver got on by a Missouri Southern error, Alexa Harvey blasted a two-rbi double to left center giving SBU a 3-0 lead. Missouri Southern responded with a run of their own in the fourth before Autumn Lamle smashed a solo homerun to left center putting SBU up 4-1. Southern would try and rally, but the Bearcats would hold them off for a 4-3 game one victory.

In game two Alexa Harvey was dominate from the circle, throwing a complete game, allowing zero earned runs and only four hits while striking out five. The Bearcats were once again the first to strike, plating two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Martinez led off the inning with a double to left field, followed by a beautiful bunt single from Taylor Atwood to put runners on the corners. After a steal from Jordan Gray, who pinch ran for Atwood, Harvey hit a single up the middle bringing home both Atwood and Gray to put SBU up 2-0. Missouri Southern responded in the top of the next inning with two runs of their own to tie the game up at 2-2. The Bearcats were determined to come away with the sweep, and after a lead-off single by Harvey, Lamle blasted her second homerun on the day two batters later to put SBU up 4-2. Harvey would shut down the Lions for the remainder of the game as SBU went on to the 4-2 game two win.

"I'm so proud of our team's effort and determination today," head coach Tammy Ikerd stated. "They were big wins for our program and a great way to celebrate the careers of our seniors."

The Bearcats will be back in action on Friday, April 20 when they travel to Lindenwood for a match-up with the Lions. First pitch of game one is set for 2:00 p.m.
