Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University Bearcats had a tough time against Northwest Missouri State on Friday, dropping both games of the double-header 5-3 in the first and 10-3 in the second.
Bo Helsel extended his hit streak to six straight in the loss.
In game one Northwest Missouri jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after two before the Bearcats responded in the bottom of the third. After a lead-off single by
Jacob Estes,
Tyler Christophel knocked him home with a two-out single to center field, cutting Northwest Missouri's lead in half at 2-1. Northwest Missouri would add two more in the top of the fourth, but SBU once again responded with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. With two runners on,
Jeremiah Bryan hit a double to left center, bringing home Helsel. The next at bat Estes hit a sacrifice fly to plate
Ross Wolfe and cut the lead to 4-3. The Bearcats were never able to overcome Northwest, as SBU dropped game one 5-3.
In game two Northwest Missouri once again jumped out to an early 1-0 lead. The Bearcats got the run back in the bottom of the first when
Drew Miller hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Christophel, tying the game up at 1-1. Northwest Missouri would score the next seven runs to take a 8-1 lead, but the Bearcats got two back in the bottom of the eighth off of an rbi single from
Spencer Blacksher and another sacrifice fly from Miller. However, Northwest Missouri would go on to a 10-3 victory.
The Bearcats will close out the series with Northwest Missouri on Saturday, April 14. First pitch of the double-header is set for 12:00 p.m. from Dodson Field in Bolivar.
