Russellville, Ark. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team picked up a big road with behind a strong pitching effort from
Alexa Harvey on Tuesday afternoon, winning game one 4-2 after dropping the first game 1-4. The Bearcats picked up 11 hits over the two games, including three extra base hits.
In the first game of the day the Bearcats jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after the first inning.
Kassy Williamson led off the game by drawing a walk, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by
BreAnn Proctor, stole third, and then came home on a throwing error by Arkansas Tech. Arkansas Tech would score four unanswered runs to go on to the 4-1 game one victory.
In game two, pitching was strong for both teams through three innings before the Bearcats broke the tie in the top of the fourth.
Alex Abernathy doubled down the leftfield line bringing home
Alandria Jensen and giving SBU a 1-0 lead.
Autumn Lamle then doubled to left-center plating
Alexa Harvey and Abernathy, followed by an RBI single by
Hailey Turner. SBU would go into the bottom of the fourth with a 4-0 lead. Harvey was dominate in the circle through the first six innings of the game, allowing only two hits and two walks. Arkansas Tech would battle back in the bottom of the seventh, but with two outs Abernathy came in and closed the door for the Bearcats. SBU went on to a 4-2 game two victory.
The Bearcats will be back in action on Friday, April 13 when Pittsburg State visits SBU for a double-header. First pitch of game one is set for 2:00 p.m. from the SBU Softball Field.
