Warrensburg, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team swept Central Missouri on Saturday afternoon behind solid pitching efforts from Jessica Colliver and Alexa Harvey. The Bearcats took game one 1-0, and claimed a 3-1 victory in game two. This marks the first time since 2000 that the Bearcats have swept UCM.

Jessica Colliver started things out solid for the Bearcats in game one, striking out her first batter, setting the pace for the rest of the game. Colliver threw a complete game shut-out, scattering 8 hits over 7 innings for her third complete game shut-out this season. The Bearcats scored the eventual winning run in the top of the fifth inning as Addie Murders started things off when she singled through the right side with two outs. A stolen base, and an infield hit by Alexa Harvey, gave the Bearcats runners on second and third when the Central Missouri pitcher was called for a balk, bringing home the game winning run for SBU.

In game two the Bearcats saw another solid pitching effort, this time from Alexa Harvey. Harvey threw five shut-out inning for SBU, followed by two innings of relief work for Alex Abernathy, as Abernathy picked up the save. The Bearcats once again put up their first runs of the game in the fifth inning. SBU strung together bunt singles as they manufactured two runs in the top half of the inning. With one out, BreAnn Procter was hit by a pitch, followed by bunt singles from Kassy Williamson and Jennifer Martinez. Procter scored on the Martinez bunt single, giving SBU a 1-0 lead. Williamson would later come home on an error by UCM, putting SBU up 2-0. In the top of the seventh, pinch hitter Alandria Jensen gave the Bearcats an insurance run when she blasted a solo homerun to left field, giving SBU a 3-0 lead, as the Bearcats went on to claim a 3-1 game two victory.

"I was extremely proud of our team today," head coach Tammy Ikerd stated after the sweep. "Our pitchers did a phenomenal job as well as our defense. They were big wins for our program."

The Bearcats will return to action on Tuesday, April 3rd when they travel to Springfield, Missouri to take on Evangel. First pitch of the double-header is set for 5:00 p.m.
