Ottawa, Kan. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team traveled to Ottawa, Kansas on Tuesday afternoon for a match-up with Ottawa University.
Jessica Colliver had a strong pitching and offensive performance, but it wasn't enough as SBU dropped the first game 3-2, and the second 8-0.
In game one Ottawa jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but the Bearcats would soon find themselves on the scoreboard in the top of the 4th. With one out
Taylor Atwood blasted a double, and was brought home by Colliver to cut the lead to 1 at 2-1. Ottawa would add another unearned run in the bottom of the 6th before the Bearcats mounted a comeback in the top of the 7th. Colliver led off the inning with a single, and was eventually brought home off of an error by Ottawa. However, the comeback bid fell short as Ottawa took game one 3-2. Errors hurt the Bearcats in game one, as Colliver threw a complete game allowing three runs (all unearned) while striking out 5 in her 13th complete game of the season. In game two
Alex Abernathy was excellent in a relief role, pitching 3.1 innings without allowing a hit. However, the Bearcats dropped game two 8-0.
SBU will be back in action on Saturday, March 31 when they travel to Warrensburg, Missouri for a match-up against the Jennies of Central Missouri. First pitch of the double-header is set for 1:00 p.m.
