Topeka, Kan. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team played a tough game against Washburn on Saturday afternoon, but came up short in both games of the double-header, losing 4-2 and 11-0.
Mike Nielebeck had a solid pitching performance for SBU in game one, pitching a complete game allowing two earned runs while striking out 10 batters.
In game one the Bearcats were the first to strike in the second inning. After a lead-off single by
Brendon Cox,
Ross Wolfe brought him home on an RBI single to right field, giving SBU a 1-0 lead. Washburn would tie the game up in the bottom half of the inning before SBU would once again take the lead in the third.
Tyler Christophel singled to left field and was eventually brought home by
Drew Miller, putting SBU up 2-1. Washburn would go on to score three straight runs to take the 4-2 victory. Nielebeck was outstanding, pitching a complete game while striking out a career high 10 batters. Washburn would take take game two 11-0.
The Bearcats will be at it again tomorrow, Sunday, March 25 when they finish off the series at Washburn. Opening pitch for the double-header is set for 1:00 p.m.
