Topeka, Kan. -
Drew Miller led the offensive attack against Washburn on Sunday afternoon, giving the Bearcats 6 hits with 4 RBI's, but it wasn't enough as SBU dropped both games of the double-header 4-3 and 7-3.
In game one the Bearcats were the first to get on the scoreboard.
Tyler Christophel led off the game with a single to left field and was brought home off of an rbi single from
Drew Miller. Washburn quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning with 3 runs to take a 3-1 lead. Pitching from both teams would lock down the offense as neither team would score over the next five innings. The Bearcats would finally break through in the top of the sixth inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Christophel came up to the plate and hit a two-rbi single to left field to tie the game up at 3-3. Washburn would rally in the bottom of the seventh to take a 4-3 victory in game one.
Dustin Caplette pitched a solid game for the Bearcats, throwing 6.1 innings, allowing three earned runs while striking out 7.
In game two the Bearcats once again jumped out to an early lead. After singles from
Landon Young and
Bo Helsel,
Drew Miller hit a single of his own plating both runners and giving SBU a 2-0 lead. However Washburn once again quickly responded, scoring 6 runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Bearcats would get one run back in the top of the 5th off of another rbi single from Miller, but it wasn't enough as the Bearcats dropped the second game 7-3.
SBU will return home for a double-header against Central Missouri on Tuesday, March 27. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m. from Dodson Field in Bolivar.
