Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team had a tough time against Emporia State on Saturday, dropping the first game 0-11 and the second 3-7. The Bearcats had some excellent defense plays, snagging line drives out of the air, but it wasn't enough to top the Hornets.
After losing the first game, the Bearcats came ready to play in game two. After dropping behind 1-0, SBU plated a run of their own in the bottom of the first when
Taylor Atwood singled to centerfield, bringing home
Kassy Williamson. The Hornets would score runs in the second and third to take a 3-1 lead. The Bearcats continued to threat every inning, but were unable to get the runners home as ESU added 4 more in the top of the sixth to go up 7-1. Southwest Baptist continued to battle, as
BreAnn Proctor singled through the right side bringing home
Jessica Colliver followed by an rbi from
Addie Murders scoring
Stacie Davis. Emporia State however would hold on for the 7-3 victory.
The Bearcats will be back in action on Tuesday, March 13 when they host Wisconsin-Parkside. Opening pitch of the double header is set for 1:00 p.m. from the SBU Softball Field in Bolivar.
