SBU Men's Basketball to Take on #18 Northwest Missouri in First Round of the MIAA Tournament

- The Bearcats kick-off the MIAA Tournament with a match-up against #18 Northwest Missouri in the first round on Friday, March 2. Tip-off is set for 8:15 p.m. With a Bearcat victory, SBU would face the winner of Pittsburg State/Central Missouri on Saturday, March 3 at 8:15 p.m. followed by the championship game on Sunday, March 4 at 4:00 p.m. All SBU games in the tournament will be broadcast live on 99.9 KBFL, and can be heard online at kbflfm.com. The Coaches and the All-Time Series
SBU head coach Jeff Guiot is in his eighth season on the Bearcat bench, where he has won three MIAA regular season titles, and compiled a 157-82 (.657) record. Coach Guiot has led the 'Cats to an MIAA Tournament appearance each season, and three NCAA Tournament appearances.

Ben McCollum is primed to begin his thired season as the head coach at his alma mater. Northwest won its first four games en route to a 12-15 season. The team fell one win shy of qualifying for the MIAA tournament.

Northwest Missouri leads the all-time series against SBU 33-19.

SBU Record Watch
SBU Head Coach Jeff Guiot has become the winningest coach in SBU history with his victory over Washburn University on January 3. Coach Guiot has collected 157 wins over his eight seasons as head coach.

SBU guard Ryan Dougherty has scored 1,309 points in his career as a Bearcat, and currently ranks 6th all-time on the SBU scoring list. Dougherty set the all-time SBU record for three-point baskets made, with his current record standing at 217, and has also recorded the most minutes played in SBU history with 3,099 minutes. Dougherty also currently ranks 7th in assists (315) and is 5th in steals (135) in the SBU record books.

Scouting the Bearcats
Northwest Missouri comes into the game against the Bearcats with a 21-5 record and 15-5 in the MIAA. Northwest is currently atop the MIAA, and the Bearcats are coming off of a 67-64 victory over Missouri Southern.

On the season, NWMSU's scoring offense averages 71.0 points per game and their defense allows an MIAA leading 62.6 points per game.

DeShaun Cooper is the leading Bearcat scoring in double figures on the season, averaging 14.5 points per game while also averaging a team high 4.1 assists per game. Jake Reinders is the leading rebounder, with 6.5 boards per game, while he also averages 11.8 points per game.
