The Coaches and the All-Time Series
SBU head coach Jeff Guiot is in his eighth season on the Bearcat bench, where he has won three MIAA regular season titles, and compiled a 154-80 (.658) record. Coach Guiot has led the 'Cats to an MIAA Tournament appearance each season, and three NCAA Tournament
appearances.
Former NBA First Round Draft Pick Shaun Vandiver is the 16th head men's basketball coach at Emporia State University. He spent the previous ten years as an assistant coach at the NCAA Division I level, most recently at Boise State University.
The Bearcats lead the all-time series against the Bulldogs 27-19.
SBU Record Watch
SBU Head Coach Jeff Guiot has become the winningest coach in SBU history with his victory over Washburn University on January 3. Coach Guiot has collected 154 wins over his eight seasons as head coach.
SBU guard
Ryan Dougherty has scored 1,214 points in his career as a Bearcat, and currently ranks 8th all-time on the SBU scoring list. Dougherty set the all-time SBU record for three-point baskets made, with his current record standing at 203, and has also recorded the most minutes played in SBU history with 2,931 minutes. Dougherty also currently ranks 7th in assists (291) and 6th in steals (129) in the SBU record books.
Scouting the Hornets
Emporia State comes into the game against the Bearcats with a 8-12 record and 4-10 in the MIAA. The Hornets are coming off of a 61-76 loss at Central Missouri.
On the season, ESU's scoring offense averages 63.7 points per game and their defense allows 69.3 points per game.
Tola Lawal is the leading scorer for the Hornets, averaging 13.3 points per game. Derrell Conner (12.1) and Chris Sights (11.3) are the only other Hornets scoring in double figures.
