Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University women's basketball team ran into some tough competition on Saturday afternoon in Bolivar, losing to Truman State 77-68. The Bearcats had a strong second half effort, but it wasn't quite enough to overcome the halftime deficit.
The Bulldogs came out of the gate quickly, jumping out to an early 27-12 lead on the Bearcats. SBU would hold steady for the remainder of the first half, going into halftime down 37-23. However, SBU wouldn't go away without a fight. The Bearcats mounted a second half comeback, feeding off of 18 second half points from
Chasity Prince, as the Bearcats would pull within 3 points late in the second half. The Bulldogs were able to hit clutch free throws down the stretch and were able to hold off the Bearcats, winning by a final of 77-68.
Chasity Prince's return to the line-up was a welcomed one for the Bearcats, as she scored a team high 20 points off of an impressive 9 of 10 shooting from the field.
Jacqui Zelenka had a solid game for SBU, giving them 19 points and 5 rebounds, while
Brittney Dukes was excellent on the glass, scoring 13 points and pulling down a career high 8 rebounds. As a team the Bearcats shot 44.6% from the field in the game after shooting just 33.3% from the field in the first half. The Bearcats shot 10.0% from the beyond the arc, 60.0% from the free throw line, and out-rebounded the Bulldogs 42-34.
The Bearcats will be back in action on Wednesday, February 8 when they travel to Emporia, Kansas to take on the Hornets of Emporia State. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
