Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University men's basketball team rode excellent defense on way to a 68-49 victory over Truman State on Saturday afternoon in Bolivar. Seniors
Robson Memnon and
Ryan Dougherty continued to carry SBU to their fourth straight MIAA victory, and ninth win in the last eleven games.
The Bearcats and the Bulldogs played a tough back-and-forth first half, with the Bearcats going into halftime with a 30-25 lead over the Bulldogs. SBU came out strong in the second half, and was able to push the lead to double-digits and cruise to a 68-49 victory. The Bearcat defense was outstanding, allowing a season low 49 points.
Robson Memnon led the offense attack for the Bearcats, scoring 20 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in the victory. Ryan Doughery continues to play well from the point guard position, giving SBU 16 points with 3 assits and 3 steals, while
Kyle Sloan scored 10 points with three three's in game.
As a team, SBU shot 42.4% from the field, 27.3% from beyond the arc, and 80.0% from the free throw line. The Bearcats out-rebounded the Bulldogs 43-28 and forced 16 turnovers and collected 8 steals.
The Bearcats will be back in action on Wednesday, February 8 when they travel to Emporia, Kansas to take on the Hornets of Emporia State. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
