Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team collected their second win on the season on Friday afternoon with a 12-7 victory over Upper Iowa. The Bearcats collected 17 hits and 7 extra base hits in the victory.
The Bearcats jumped all over the Peacocks early on, getting out a quick 4-0 lead after the first inning.
Tyler Christophel led off the game with a triple to right center, and was brought in by an infield single by
Drew Miller to put SBU up 1-0. After a single by
Brendon Cox,
Spencer Blacksher brought home Miller with an rbi single. Cox scored off of a wild pitch, and Blacksher was brought home by an rbi single by
Jacob Estes.
The Bearcats continued their potent offense in the second and third innings, adding three runs each inning. An rbi single by Miller and a two-rbi double by Blacksher put the Bearcats up 7-0 after two innings. In the bottom of the third,
Cody Crutcher tripled to center field followed by an rbi triple by
Landon Young down the right field line.
Jeremiah Bryan brought home Young with an rbi single, followed by an rbi double by Miller to put SBU up 10-0 going into the fourth inning. The Bearcats would go on to a 12-7 victory to move to 2-0-1 on the season.
Justin Pasichnyk pitched an excellent game for the Bearcats, going 6.0 innings allowing two earned runs while striking out six. At the plate, every Bearcat starter produced a hit, with Miller and Blacksher coming away with the most impressive offensive performances. Miller went 3 for 4 with two runs and four rbi, while Blacksher went 2 for 5 with a run and three rbi.
"Today Pasichnyk did really well and hit his spots and mixed in his off speed pitches well," starting catcher
Drew Miller commented. "His fastball also had good velocity on it. Our offensive came out stroking today. We really hit the gaps well with some singles, and the guys delivered some crucial at bats to get the runners in. Today was all around a good day."
"I am really proud of the way we bounced back and played today," head coach
Chris Martin stated. "Our guys really focused in the few days of practice we've had. We made some adjustments and I thought they came out of the box really determined today. I am proud of the way we played and the way our guys stepped up. We have to come out ready tomorrow and win the series. Offensively we really did a great job squaring up balls all day."
The Bearcats will be back in action tomorrow when they close out the series with a double-header against Upper Iowa. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m. from Dodson Field.
