Topeka, Kan. - The Bearcats comeback bid fell just short on Saturday afternoon at Washburn, with the Ichabods escaping away with a 65-67 victory. The Bearcats had four players score in double figures in a game that went down to the final seconds.

SBU and WU played a back and forth battle the entire first half, with the Bearcats taking a slight 35-34 advantage going into halftime. The Ichabods would extend thier lead to 9 and hold the lead for most of the second half before the Bearcats would start battling back. The Bearcats played excellent defense in the final three mintues to cut the lead down to 1 point, but were unable to hit a last second shot as they collected only their 3rd loss in the last 12 games.

Robson Memnon was the leading scorer for the Bearcats, giving SBU 18 points off of 7 of 11 shooting from the field. Ryan Dougherty was once again solid for SBU, scoring 14 points and dishing out 4 assits. Kyle Sloan added 14, and Ricky Odige added 11 in the loss. As a team, the Bearcats shot 46.8% from the field, 35.7% from beyond the arc, and 61.1% from the free throw line.

"I was very impressed with how our kids battled over the last 4 mintues," head coach Jeff Guiot commented. "It was a tough, hardnose game and our guys down the strech really played well. We had some guys show up and play with a lot of heart, a lot of desire, and their effort was good. We need to shake off the loss and be ready to play against Fort Hays on Thursday."

The Bearcats will be back in action on Thursday, February 16 when they host Fort Hays State. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. from the Meyer Sports Center.
