Pittsburg, Kan. - The Southwest Baptist University men's basketball team extended their win streak to three games with a 73-65 victory over Pittsburg State on Wednesday night. The Bearcats spread out the offense with five players scoring in double figures in the game.
The Bearcats and Gorillas went back and forth in the first half, with neither team leading by more than five in the first half.
Ryan Dougherty hit a lay-up in the final seconds to put SBU up 31-29 at the half. The Bearcats would slowly build their lead to 13 but the Gorillas wouldn't go away, pulling the game back within double-digits. Klye Sloan would hit two key three's, but Pittsburg State would keep the game close throughout the second half. The Bearcats would prevent Pittsburg State from ever gaining a lead in the second half as they went on to the 73-65 victory.
The Bearcats presented a very balanced offense in the victory over Pittsburg State with five players scoring in double figures.
Ryan Dougherty led the Bearcats in points with 13 and had an excellent stat line, dishing out 8 assists and grabbing 7 rebounds and playing excellent defense throughout.
Robson Memnon was a great factor inside for the Bearcats with 12 points, while
Abner Kamps gave SBU a nice spark off the bench with 10 points.
Kyle Sloan hit key three's throughout the game, and gave SBU 13 points, while
Jake Littrel gave SBU 10 points. As a team the Bearcats shot 46.2% from the floor, 50.0% from beyond the arc, and 76.2% from the free throw line.
"It was a gutsy win for us tonight," assistant coach Colt Blair stated after the victory. "Pittsburg State really had their defense geared towards Ryan [Dougherty] but we had guys who stepped up. Ricky [Odige] played a solid game for us, Kyle [Sloan] and Jake [Littrel] hit some big shots for us, and our bigs played pretty well. It was a overall team effort."
The Bearcats will be back in action on Saturday, February 4
