SBU Women's Basketball Set to Host Central Oklahoma on Saturday

Bolivar, Mo. - The Bearcats return home after a tough double overtime loss at #8 Washburn to take on Central Oklahoma on Saturday. The Bearcats will look for their first MIAA victory of the season in their MIAA home opener.

The Coaches and the All-Time Series
SBU head coach Todd Voss in his second season on the Bearcat bench. Coach Voss has compiled a 121-50 (.708) career coaching record (13-18 at SBU), and has made two NAIA Final Four appearances while as head coach. Coach Voss comes to SBU after spending 5 years as the assistant women's basketball coach at Drake University.

Guy Hardaker is in his seventh year as Central Oklahoma's head women's basketball coach. Hardaker took over the helm in 2006 after a highly-successful stint as boys high school basketball coach and is 126-55 in six years with the Bronchos.

Central Oklahoma leads the all-time series against the Bearcats 5-4, claiming a 79-72 victory over SBU when they last met in 2007-08.

Scouting the Bearcats
The Bearcats forced double overtime against #8 Washburn, but came up just short in their last time out. SBU is led in scoring and rebounding by Jacqui Zelenka who averages 15.8 ppg and 9.5 rpg. Zelenka is coming off of back-to-back-to-back double-double games, the first such stretch of her career. The Bearcats support a balanced offense with seven different players averaging over six and a half points per game: Tanis Spani (9.8), Brook Duncan (8.5), Brittney Dukes (8.2), Chasity Prince (7.5), and Morgan Lucy (6.5).

Scouting the Bronchos
The Bronchos have started out the 2012 season 6-1 (1-0 MIAA) after coming off of a 70-62 victory against #11 Pittsburg State. Alyssa Fuxa is the leading scorer and rebounder for the Bronchos, averaging 15.6 ppg and 7.6 rpg.

• As a team, SBU ranks 9th in the NCAA (1st in the MIAA) for Scoring Defense, allowing 53.3 ppg.

• Zelenka was named the MIAA Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week for week four.

• The SBU defense shut down Illinois-Springfield, tying the school record for fewest points allowed during a game (34), a mark which leads the MIAA this season.

• Zelenka ranks 15th in the NCAA in FG Percentage (61.5%), Lansdown ranks 37th in the NCAA in Assist to Turnover Ratio (1.8), and Tanis Spani ranks 39th in the NCAA in Free Throw Percentage (90.0%).

• Zelenka ranks 10th in the MIAA in Scoring (15.8 ppg), 4th in Rebounding (9.5 rpg), and 6th in FG Percentage (61.5%).

• Leann Lansdown ranks 10th in the MIAA in Assists (3.0 apg) and 4th in Assist to Turnover Ratio (1.8).

Tanis Spani ranks 7th in the MIAA in Free Throw Percentage (90.0%) and Brook Duncan ranks 9th in the MIAA in Blocked Shots (1.2 bpg).
