SBU Men's Basketball to Begin MIAA Play on the Road at #2 Washburn on Thursday

Bolivar, Mo. - The Bearcats play their second straight opponent ranked in the top 6 when they travel to Topeka, Kansas to take on #2 Washburn. The Bearcats returned from WWU Classic going 1-1 with a victory over Alaska-Fairbanks.

The Coaches and the All-Time Series
SBU head coach Jeff Guiot is in his ninth season on the Bearcat bench, where he has won three MIAA regular season titles and compiled a 159-88 (.644) record. Coach Guiot is the winningest coach in SBU history, has led the 'Cats to an MIAA Tournament appearance each season, and has three NCAA Tournament appearances.

Bob Chipman begins his 34th season at the helm of the Ichabod basketball program. Chipman enters the season with a 721-296 (.709) overall record and he has 482 wins since the Ichabods joined the MIAA - the most of any teams in the league since the 1991-92 season.

Washburn leads the all-time series against Southwest Baptist 31-16. The Ichabods won the last meeting 67-65 at WU.

Scouting the Bearcats
The Bearcats are set to begin MIAA play with a 2-5 record, going 2-2 over their last four games. The Bearcats are led in scoring by Preston Guiot who averages 11.4 ppg and 4.3 apg, while Jaywuan Hill also averages double figures at 10.0 ppg. Damion Hooks (9.7 ppg) and Kyle Sloan (8.9 ppg) also contribute on the offensive side of the ball.

Scouting the Ichabods
Washburn comes into the contest ranked #2 in the nation with a 6-0 record. Will McNeill leads the Ichabod offense, averaging 21.0 ppg and 5.7 rebounds per game. Bobby Chipman is the leading rebounder for WU, averaging 8.2 rpg to go along with 10.5 ppg, while Martin Mitchell averages 12.8 ppg.

• SBU is the only team in the MIAA to play all Division II schools prior to MIAA competition.

Preston Guiot tied the MIAA record for 3-Point FG Percentage in a game when he went 7-7 against Alaska-Fairbanks on 11/23.

Damion Hooks ranks 5th in the MIAA in Field Goal Percentage, shooting 60.4% on the year.

Preston Guiot ranks 6th in the MIAA in assists, dishing out 4.3 per game.

• Guiot also ranks 4th in the MIAA in 3-Point FG made (2.3/G), 12th in Assists/Turnover Ratio (1.5), 15th in 3-Point FG Percentage (44.4%), and 30th in scoring (11.4 ppg).

• As a team, SBU ranks 4th in the MIAA in assists (14.9 apg), 6th in 3-Point FG made (7.6/g), and 7th in 3-Point FG Percentage (37.6%).
