Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University women's basketball team supported a balanced offense in a 75-54 victory over the Spartans on Saturday afternoon in Bolivar.
The game against the Spartans was never in doubt, as SBU led the entire contest. After SBU took a 2-0 lead after a Leann Lansdown lay-up, the Bearcats quickly pushed their lead to double-digits with 14:24 to go in the first half (19-8) off of a
Chasity Prince jumper. The Bearcats maintained their lead, and absorbed a couple of mini runs by MBU, before taking a 44-30 lead into halftime. The Bearcats held their lead, pushing it to 20 with 8:44 to go in the contest, before claiming a 75-54 win.
Leann Lansdown scored a career high 12 points, and
Ashlee Pitts added a career high 15 points and tied a career high with 9 rebounds in the victory. The Bearcats had four players score in double figures, with Pitts and
Chasity Prince leading the way with 15 points a piece, Lansdown added 12, and
Brittney Dukes had 11 points to go along with 5 assists and 4 steals. As a team, the Bearcats shot 43.3% from the field, 28.6% from beyond the arc, and 57.9% from the free throw line. The Bearcats outrebounded the Spartans 44-38, and had 11 steals off of 18 forced turnovers.
The Bearcats will jump back into MIAA play on Wednesday, January 2 when they travel to Warrensburg, Missouri to take on Central Missouri. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
