Bolivar, Mo. - SBU returns home after Christmas break to host the Spartans of Missouri Baptist. SBU lost both contest in California, and look to regain momentum in the final non-conference match-up prior MIAA play.
The Coaches and the All-Time Series
SBU head coach Todd Voss in his second season on the Bearcat bench. Coach Voss has compiled a 122-53 (.697) career coaching record (14-21 at SBU), and has made two NAIA Final Four appearances while as head coach. Coach Voss comes to SBU after spending 5 years as the assistant women's basketball coach at Drake University.
Iris Dixon is in her second season as the head coach of Spartans' women's basketball and her 13th year as part of the Missouri Baptist University basketball family. Prior to being named head coach, Dixon spent the previous eight seasons at MBU as the head assistant coach.
SBU leads the all-time series against Missouri Baptist 6-0, with a 71-61 victory in 2010-11.
Scouting the Bearcats
SBU will look to move to 6-4 with a victory over Missouri Baptist on December 29. SBU is led in scoring and rebounding by
Jacqui Zelenka who averages 12.8 ppg and 10.0 rpg. Zelenka is coming off six straight games with double-digit rebounds, the first such stretch of her career. The Bearcats support a balanced offense with five different players averaging over eight points per game:
Brook Duncan (11.3),
Brittney Dukes (10.2),
Chasity Prince (9.8), and
Tanis Spani (8.1).
Scouting the Spartans
Missouri Baptist comes into the game with a 3-8 record. MBU is led in scoring by Kristyne Smyth who averages 13.9 points per game. Lauren Taylor also averages double figures at 11.0 ppg, while Haley Elders has a team high 6.5 rebounds per game.
