Bolivar, Mo. - The Bearcats take a short break from MIAA action when they travel to Monticello, Arkansas to take on the Bull Weevils of Arkansas-Monticello on Monday.
The Coaches and the All-Time Series
SBU head coach Jeff Guiot is in his ninth season on the Bearcat bench, where he has won three MIAA regular season titles and compiled a 159-88 (.644) record. Coach Guiot is the winningest coach in SBU history, has led the 'Cats to an MIAA Tournament appearance each season, and has three NCAA Tournament appearances.
Allen Sharpe enters his third season at UAM after leading the Boll Weevils to records of 14-13 and 21-9 in his first two seasons. Sharpe is coming off a third place finish in the inaugural season of the Great American Conference. Sharpe and the Boll Weevils were one shot away from reaching the finals of the league's first ever championship tournament last March.
SBU leads the all-time series against Arkansas-Monticello 3-0, including a 78-69 victory earlier this season.
Scouting the Bearcats
After an 82-88 loss against Central Oklahoma, the Bearcats now sit at 2-7 (0-2 MIAA) on the season. SBU is led in scoring by
Preston Guiot who averages 11.4 ppg and 4.7 apg, while
Jaywuan Hill (8.0),
Damion Hooks (10.4 ppg) and
Kyle Sloan (9.6 ppg) all average over eight points per game.
Scouting the Weevils
UAM dropped their last contest at home 63-65 to Ouachita Baptist, and come into the game against the Bearcats 4-4. The Bull Weevils are led in scoring by Kori Forge who averages 21.5 ppg, while A.J. Calhoun is their leading rebounder at 7.5 rpg to go along with 9.1 ppg.
