Bolivar, Mo. - The Bearcats will hit the road for their second road contest against Rockhurst on Saturday. The Bearcats are coming off a tough loss against Drury University, who received votes in the pre-season USA Today/ESPN coaches poll, and will look to claim their first win of the 2012-13 season.
The Coaches and the All-Time Series
SBU head coach Todd Voss in his second season on the Bearcat bench. Coach Voss has compiled a 117-50 career coaching record (9-18 at SBU), and has made two NAIA Final Four appearances while as head coach. Coach Voss comes to SBU after spending 5 years as the assistant women's basketball coach at Drake University.
Larry Park is in his third season on the Hawks bench and has coached for the past 31 seasons on the collegiate level. He has been an assistant coach for the Rockhurst men's program since 1996.
SBU leads the all-time series against Rockhurst 10-6. The Bearcats have won the past five meetings, including a 74-62 victory over RU in the 2006-07 season.
Scouting the Bearcats
The Bearcats opened up their season earlier this week in a 55-60 loss at Drury.
Morgan Lucy gave SBU a double-double in her first career game, with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while
Tanis Spani had 16 points, including 5 three's. SBU returns 5 players from last year's squad, including four starters.
Brittney Dukes led the Bearcats in scoring last season, averaging 13.6 points per game.
Jacqui Zelenka is the only other returner to average double-digits points last season at 10.9, while
Chasity Prince averaged 9.4 ppg shooting 51.4% from the field and 49.0% from beyond the arc.
Scouting the Hawks
Rockhurst is coming off of an opening game loss to Newman, 59-64. The Hawks will take on Baker prior to the tip with the Bearcats.
Rockhurst has three players scoring in double-figures in the opening loss to Newman. Kendall Hart came off of the bench for RU, giving them a team high 17 points. The two other Hawks in double figures both had double-doubles in their first game with Kara McFarland scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 boards, while Allison Streich had 13 points and 13 rebounds.
