Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University football team closed out their 2012 season in dominating fashion with a 43-12 victory over Lincoln. The Bearcats secured their first home victory of the season, and end the 2012 season with a 3-8 record.
The Bearcats and Blue Tigers remained played a strong defensive first quarter before the Bearcats were able to get on the scoreboard with 1:20 remaining. After another strong defensive stand, the Blue Tigers were punting deep in their own territory when
Curtis Calvin came up with a blocked punt which he recovered to give SBU it's first points of the game at 7-0. The Bearcats continued that momentum into the second quarter when
Dan Connors found
Justin Duhaney for a catch and run 80 yard touchdown pass, giving SBU the 14-0 lead. The Bearcats defense continued to step up by forcing and recover fumbles on back-to-back possessions by the Blue Tigers. The offense then drove the ball 52 yards, ending in a 21 yard touchdown pass from Connors to Duhaney to give SBU a 20-0 halftime lead.
The Bearcats came out of halftime still hungry, when
Chris Muhammad returned the opening second half kickoff 27 yards to give the Bearcats excellent field position. 52 yards later, SBU would score on a 17 yard touchdown pass from Connors to
Zachary Sohn, putting SBU up 27-0. The Bearcats continued to play solid defense, allowing the offense to take the field once again late in the third quarter when Connors hit Duhaney with a 19 yard touchdown pass, the third for Duhaney on the day, tying an SBU school record.
John Colliver would add a 45 yard field goal, putting SBU up 36-0 with 12:04 left in the game.
Lincoln would add scores off of a kickoff return and a short rushing touchdown late in the 4th quarter to cut the lead to 36-12. The Bearcat then pulled their senior starters, but the offense continued to produce. With 00:42 left in the game,
Caleb Scott gave SBU a 43-12 lead with a 49 yard touchdown run, capping off an impressive offensive day for the Bearcats.
Dan Connors gave SBU his strongest game of the season on senior day, throwing for 268 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Justin Duhaney also gave SBU his best game of the season, hauling in 7 passes for 185 yards and three touchdowns.
Caleb Scott had 3 rushes for 61 yards and a score, while
Tiras Harris had 15 rushes for 57 yards. Defensively
Jameson Manuma and
Shaquille Shedd led the way with a game high 8 tackles each.
