Bolivar, Mo. – The Southwest Baptist University volleyball team followed up their day one of outstanding volleyball with a 3-0 victory over Northwest Oklahoma State in their fourth game of the tournament. The Bearcats dropped their first contest of the game against Southern Arkansas 1-3.
In the game against Southern Arkansas, SBU dropped the first set 25-20, but were able to easily take the second set by a land side 25-13, and in the two final sets they were unable to hold on dropping the third set 25-19 and the fourth set 25-15. The Bearcats looked unbeatable in the second set against SAU with a dominating win. SBU had two ladies with 9 kills in
Carrie Johnson and
Mackynzi Gibson.
Whitney Miller and
Kelsey Fankhauser split the setting duties in the contest with 11 and 10 sets respectively. From the libero spot,
Hannah Blount continues to lead the Bearcats collecting 16 digs followed by
Kelsey Fankhauser with 7 digs.
As a team, the Bearcats had an attack percentage of .176, while Southern Arkansas had an attack percentage of .248 for the match. The Bearcats led the match collecting 13 blocks for a season high.
The Bearcats battled hard against Northwest Oklahoma State in their third game of the day, coming away with a 3-0 victory. The Bearcats took the first set 25-13 and followed that up by taking the second and third sets 25-22 and 25-17.
SBU was led by
Jenna Isaacs and
Carrie Johnson collecting 10 and 9 kills respectively.
Paige Straatmann and
McKinley Chesley were instrumental in the victory with Straatmann collecting 7 kills and Chesley collecting 4 kills.
Kelsey Fankhauser handled the bulk of the setting duties for the Bearcats, collecting 22 assists. The backcourt carried over their strong play from yesterday collecting a combined total of 48 digs.
Kaitlyn Allison led the Bearcat backcourt with 15 digs, followed by Fankhauser with 8 and
Mackynzi Gibson with 7.
The Bearcats will return to MIAA action on Friday, October 12th when they take on Washburn. The game is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. from the Meyer Sports Center.
