SBU Volleyball Sweeps Day One of Crossover Tournament with Wins over Ark-Monticello and Henderson State

Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University volleyball team kicked off day one of the 2012 Crossover Tournament with a 3-1 victory over Henderson State and a 3-1 victory over Arkansas-Monticello.

In the game against Henderson State, SBU took the first two sets 27-25, 25-13, dropped set three 23-25, and finished off HSU in set four 25-19. The Bearcats looked in control throughout the entire contest. SBU had three ladies in double figures in kills with Carrie Johnson, Jenna Isaacs, and Jordan Nedbalek all collecting 10 kills. Whitney Miller and Kelsey Fankhauser continue to split the setting duties with Miller collecting 22 assists and Fankhauser 19. Hannah Blount once again led SBU from the libero spot with 30 digs, while Kaitlyn Allison collected 16 digs for the Bearcats.

As a team, the Bearcats had an attack percentage of .195, while holding Henderson State to a .086 attack percentage. The Bearcats had more kills (55-32), assists (50-29), and digs (81-70) than HSU.

The Bearcats battled Arkansas-Monticello in the final game of day one of the tournament, and came away with another 3-1 victory. The Bearcats took the first set 25-18 before dropping set two 25-23. SBU battled back to take sets three and four 25-23 and 25-20 to win their third straight game.

SBU was led in kills by Jenna Isaacs who gave the Bearcats 13. Carrie Johnson, Jordan Nedbalek, and Nikki Madoch all had a strong presence for SBU with Johnson and Nedbalek recording 9 kills each, and Madoch 8. Kelsey Fankhauser led the setting duties with 28 assists, while Whitney Miller also added 22. The Bearcats backcourt had a strong game, with four players in double figures in digs. Hannah Blount led the way with 26 digs, followed by Mackynzi Gibson with 16, Kaitlyn Allison with 15, and Fankhauser with 10.

The Bearcats return to action tomorrow, October 6 for the completion of the SBU Crossover Tournament. SBU will take on Southern Arkansas at 11:00 a.m. followed by Northwestern Oklahoma State at 3:30 p.m.
