10/19/2012 5:23:00 PM

Fayette, Iowa - The SBU men's soccer team picked up their first MIAA victory of the season with a 4-1 win over Upper Iowa.

Upper Iowa was quick to get on the scoreboard in the first half when Jared Devine knocked in a goal in the sixth minute to put the Peacocks up 1-0. The score would remain 1-0 going into halftime before the Bearcats exploded for four goals in the second half.

At the 52:16 mark, Scott Zingerman fed the ball to Kaleb Romero who had a 5 yard strike from the left side to tie the game up a 1-1. Romero added his second goal of the game when Matthew Shaffer passed the ball from the right to Romero who tapped it into the back left corner of the net to give SBU its first lead at 2-0.

The Bearcats also forced two own goals by Upper Iowa when Zingerman and Karl DuPont both had shots deflected by Peacock defenders that found their way into the back of the net. The Bearcats would end the game with four unanswered goals and a 4-1 victory.

In goal, Gavin Bryant continues to play well. He allowed only one goal (which deflected off of the right post and in) while picking up 4 saves in the victory to move to 2-1-1 in goal this season.

The Bearcats will return to action on Sunday, October 21 when they travel to Truman State. The game against the Bulldogs is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
