Bolivar, Mo. - The SBU Bearcats look to bounce back after a tough 15-19 loss against #25 Emporia State. The Bearcats are set to host Fort Hays in the MIAA TV Network Game of the Week.
The Coaches and the All-Time Series
Keith Allen has already engineered a significant turnaround at SBU, moving the 'Cats from 0-11 his first year as interim coach, to 5-6 in 2008, to the winning record of 6-5 in 2009, another winning record of 7-4 in 2010, and completed a third consecutive winning season in 2011 with a 6-5 record. Allen served as defensive and recruiting coordinator before being named SBU head coach in 2007. His past coaching experience has included stops at San Jose State, Quincy, TCU and Oklahoma.
Chris Brown enters his second season as head coach of Fort Hays State in 2012. Brown came to Fort Hays State from Washburn University, where he served as the defensive coordinator and defensive secondary coach from 2002-2010 and assistant head coach in 2010.
Southwest Baptist leads the all-time series against Fort Hays 2-1. The Bearcats won the last match-up 30-28 last season at FHSU.
Scouting the Tigers
Fort Hays comes into the match-up against the Bearcats with a 1-5 record on the season. The Hornets lost a 4th quarter lead against Lindenwood last week, dropping the contest 20-17, after taking down Truman State 37-23 the week before. Fort Hays' other losses came against Missouri Western (21-3), NW Missouri State (48-10), Washburn (45-20), and Emporia State (41-18).
Tarean Austin leads the Tigers offense from the quarterback position. Austin averages 124.2 yards per game through the air and 49.0 yards per game on the ground. Addie Brown is the Tigers' leading rusher, averaging 69.2 yards per game.
Defensively Layton Hickel is the leading tackler, collecting 52 tackles on the season, while Austin Hubert has 51 and a team high 2.0 sacks. Kedron Paul has a team high 2 interceptions on the season. As a team Fort Hays has 5 interceptions and 6 fumble recoveries.
