SBU Volleyball Claims Come from Behind Victory in Opening Tournament

Canyon, Tex. - The SBU Volleyball team ended day one of the 2011 Lady Buff Classic in exciting fashion, claiming a 3-2 victory over the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. The Bearcats found themselves down 0-2 before claiming the final three sets to seal their first victory of the season.

After dropping the first set 22-25, the Bearcats battled but came up just shy in the second set 28-30. The Bearcats then took control, winning the third set 25-14, the fourth set 25-22, and the final set 15-13. Britni Reed lead the way for the Bearcats with 13 kills, followed closely by Kylie Heim with 12 kills, Jenna Isaacs with 11, and Carrie Johnson with 10. Whitney Miller lead the Bearcats in assists with 33.

In game one of the tournament, the Bearcats fell to West Texas A&M University 0-3.

"They showed a lot character," assistant head coach Sarah Brannock stated about the team. "They were able to refocus after the loss in the morning, and being down two sets, and were able to come together and gave a team effort. It was a team effort from the girls on the court to the girls on the bench, everyone, 1-16."

The Bearcats will conclude the tournament tomorrow, as they face Eastern New Mexico University at 9:00 am, followed by a 4:00 pm matchup with Texas Woman's University.
