Calgary, Canada - The Calgary Stampeders announced today the signing of former SBU standout quarterback, Steve Gachette. As policy of the Stampeders, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
While playing for Southwest Baptist University, Gachette gathered 18 different school records, was a 2010 and 2009 Harlon Hill Award Regional Finalist (Most Valuable Player in Division II), was selected as a nominee for the 2009 and 2010 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, was named to the Consensus Draft Services Division II Preseason All-American team in 2009 and 2010, was the 2008 and 2009 D2football.com All-Independents Offensive Player of the Year, was named to the 2009
Football Gazette All-Super Region Four Third Team, and in 2007 led the MIAA in total yards of offense per game (286.4).
"Steve is the type of person every coach wants on their team," head football coach Keith Allen stated. "He's the hardest worker I have seen in my 14 year coaching career. He came to SBU as a walk on with a chip on his shoulder and a point to prove. He worked very hard for everything he earned: a scholarship, a degree, and all the athletic accolades over the last 4 seasons. In my mind the Calgary Stampeders just signed the best person they could have in Steve Gachette. I have no doubt he will be very successful in the CFL!"
