Maryville, Mo. - The SBU Bearcats baseball team recieved excellent starting pitching against Northwest Missouri on Saturday, with each starting pitcher throwing a complete game.
In game one, Mike Nicks took the hill for the Bearcats. Nicks continues to pitch well, throwing a complete game against Northwest with a season high 8 strikeouts in the process. However, SBU lost the contest 3-2 with SBU's comback falling just shy in the seventh. Northwest got on the scoreboard first, scoring one run in the bottom of the first inning. SBU responded with an rbi double by Jacob Estes, to tie the score up 1-1. Northwest would add runs in the fifth and sixth to push their lead to 3-1. In the seventh inning, Tyler Christophel had an rbi single, and then stole a base putting himself on second with only one out. However, Northwest was able to close out the game, and take game one 3-2.
In game two, Mike Nielbeck was on the mound for the Bearcats. Nielbeck threw an outstanding game, throwing 8 innings and allowing only two runs off of only four hits. SBU struck first in the top off the first scoring on an rbi double by Paden Grubbs. Northwest would respond by scoring a run in the bottom of the first, and bottom of the third. Pitching would then take over for both ballclubs, allowing no more runs, and giving Northwest a 2-1 victory.
