Maryville, Mo. - The SBU Bearcats softball team continued their strong pitching efforts against the #4 team in the MIAA on Friday against Nothwest Missouri.
Karly Bitters and
Josie Rose both pitched complete games, giving up only one earned run. SBU pitching limited the Bearcats of Northwest to 9 total hits in the series, as the Bearcats split the two games, winning the second game of the double-header 3-2, while losing the first 2-0.
In game two,
Josie Rose was in the circle for the Bearcats. After an excellent previous weekend for Rose, she took off where she left off, pitching a solid complete game once again for the Bearcats. Rose struck out a season high 11 batters in the complete game victory where she gave up only 1 earned run off of three hits. SBU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead off of an rbi single by
Sarah Brison. SBU extended thier lead in the top of the fourth inning when
Devon McNeal singled, bringing home
Stacie Davis and
Karly Bitters. Northwest attemped a comeback in by scoring runs in the sixth and seventh, but SBU was able to hold them off and secure a 3-2 victory, and a split for the series.
In game one,
Karly Bitters took the circle for the Bearcats, pitching a solid complete game. Bitters allowed only one earned run, striking out five batters and allowing only one walk. However, the SBU offense was unable to give Bitters any run support as Northwest claimed a 2-0 victory in the opening game of the series.
SBU will be back in action on Saturday, April 9 when they travel to Omaha to take on Nebraska Omaha in a double-header. Opening pitch is set for 11:00 a.m. with live stats available
