Kansas City, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University women's tennis team clinched the second ever MIAA Championship on Saturday morning in Kansas City when they defeated Northwest Missouri State 5-2.
SBU was once again lead by
Mehak Singh, who lost only one singles match all year, who remained undefeated in MIAA conference regular season and post season play. Singh defeated Erika Leston 6-0, 6-1 in singles and added a doubles victory with partner
Andjela Panovski 8-1. After Northwest took two of three doubles matches, SBU had singles victories from Singh, Panovski,
Jenna Hendrickson, and
Crystal Guiot to finish off the Bearcats of Northwest 5-2.
"Great tournament for both teams," head coach
John Bryant stated. "The women's win was a total team effort and good depth made the difference. We will find out on Tuesday on the womens nationals."
With the MIAA Championship win, the Bearcat women earn an automatic spot in the NCAA South Central Regional which takes place on May 1. On Tuesday, April 26, SBU will find out where the NCAA South Central Regional will be held, and who they will face in the first round.
