Josie Rose threw her most impressive game of the season on senior day when she threw a complete game one hit shutout of Fort Hays State on Saturday afternoon in Bolivar. Rose struck out a season high 12 batters while only allowing one hit and three walks as SBU won game two 2-0.
Rose was electric from the circle, not allowing a baserunner past second base the entire contest. SBU was able to provide Rose with run support by scoring two runs in the bottom of the third inning. With two outs and runners on first and second,
Alandria Jensen and
BreAnn Proctor had a double steal, putting runners on second and third.
Karly Bitters then drew a walk, bringing
Rhiannon Mendez to the plate. Mendez blasted the first pitch she saw off the outfield fence, bringing home two runners and giving SBU a 2-0 lead. The two runs were plently of support for Rose and she threw her second 1-hitter on the season, giving SBU a 2-0 victory.
In game one Fort Hays was able to score runs in the first four innings to move to a 12-0 advantage. SBU was able to put one run on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning off of an rbi single by
Stacie Davis. Fort Hays State won the first matchup 12-1.
Next up for the Bearcats is a home matchup with Northeastern State University on Tuesday, April 26. The double-header will start at 2:00 p.m. from Bolivar.
