St. Joseph, Mo. - The SBU Bearcats concluded their series with the Griffons of Missouri Western today in St. Joseph. The Bearcats had a couple of strong pitching performances, along with a good day from the plate from Grubbs, but dropped all three contests.
In the conclusion of the game that was originally postponed, the Bearcats resumed the game down 9-2. The Griffons added three more runs in the first two innings, giving Missouri Western an 12-2 lead. SBU was able to string together three runs in the bottom of the seventh off of rbi singles from Niko Saladis and Jacob Estes, and an rbi sac fly from Paden Grubbs, but dropped the conclusion of the postponed game 12-5.
In game two, SBU saw a strong pitching effort from Mike Nielebeck who pitched a complete game allowing three earned runs off of only four hits while striking out four. However, Nielebeck recieved no run support as Saladis provided the only hit for the Bearcats, as SBU lost the game 5-0.
In the final game of the day the Bearcats found themselves down 5-0 after three innings of play. SBU would eventually get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the ninth when Taylor Trotter walked with the bases loaded to cut the lead to 5-1. Missouri Western would get out of the jam and seal a 5-1 victory.
Next up for the Bearcats is a road matchup with Central Missouri on Tuesday, April 26 in Warrensburg. The double-header is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
