Game 1 Box

Bolivar, Mo. - The SBU Bearcats took on the Griffons of Missouri Western Friday afternoon in Bolivar. Game one proved to be an exciting extra inning game, while game two was postponed due to lightning in the area.

Jared Berman took the mound for the Bearcats in game one. With the game tied 0-0 in the second inning, Missouri Western struck first, taking a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the second. However, SBU responded with two of their own runs off of Dominic Bouvier homerun, to take a 2-1 lead. The back and forth scoring continued in the top of the third, as Missouri Western puts up three more runs, and retakes the lead, 4-2. But once again, SBU was able to battle back, putting up two more runs in the bottom of the fourth, off of a Nigel Morton single, to tie the game up at 4-4. The Bearcats would have their chances to take the lead late in the ballgame, including a situation with the bases loaded and only one out in the bottom of the seventh, but were unable to put the winning run across homeplate. Missouri Western would take advantage, scoring six runs in the top of the eighth to secure a 10-4 victory.

Game two was underway before a lightning delay began during the bottom of the fourth inning. The game was eventually delayed, and will resume Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. with the score Missouri Western 9, SBU 2 in the bottom of the fourth with one runner on first, and no outs.

After the conclusion of that game, SBU will play the originally scheduled double-header to finish out the four game series with the Griffons.
