Bolivar, Mo. - The SBU Bearcats softball team once again had a solid pitching effort from
Josie Rose and
Karly Bitters. Both pitchers were crucial in SBU's 4-0 victory over Newman in game two of the double-header.
Rose started the game for the Bearcats, pitching a solid four innings, allowing only two bunt singles, while striking out four batters. With runners on the corners with two outs in the bottom of the second inning,
Devon McNeal blasted a three-run homer to centerfield, giving the Bearcats a 3-0 lead. SBU pitching would remain dominant in the late innings when Bitters came into the ballgame in the top of the fifth. Bitters pitched three innings, allowing only one hit while striking out three, to pick up her second save on the season. The Bearcats would give the pitching one more run in the bottom of the fifth off of an rbi single by McNeal. The Bearcats came away with a 4-0 victory in game two. On the day McNeal went 2-3 with four rbi and two stolen bases.
In game one, Newman jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first, and never looked back sealing a 13-0 game one victory.
SBU will continue their homestand as they host Washburn University on Friday, April 22 at 2:00 p.m. from Bolivar.
