Bolivar, Mo. - The SBU softball team once again had a solid pitching afternoon from the duo of
Josie Rose and
Karly Bitters as the Bearcats took on the Blue Tigers of Lincoln. In game two, Rose pitched a complete game 1 hit shut-out, to earn her second victory on the year. In game one, Bitters pitched a complete game, giving up no earned runs.
Starting pitcher,
Josie Rose, was on from the very beginning of game two of the double-header with Lincoln. Rose struck out four of the first six batters in the game, showing the dominance she has in the circle. The game was truly a pitcher's dual, with a combined six hits between the two ballclubs, but the Bearcats had timely hitting to provide Rose with run support. In the bottom of the fifth inning,
Devon McNeal opened up the inning tripling down the leftfield line, but herself in scoring position. After one out,
Stacie Davis singled to left field bringing home McNeal to break the tie, and give SBU a 1-0 lead. Bre Proctor would score later in the inning off of a wild pitch to give the Bearcats a 2-0. The two runs were more than enough for Rose who pitched a complete game one hit shutout the give SBU its second MIAA victory in as many days. Rose was dominant, allowing one hit, a soft grounder between third and home, while striking out five.
In game one of the double-header, Bitters took the circle for the Bearcats. Bitters was solid throughout the day, allowing zero earned runs and striking out four batters. In the first inning the defense let Bitters down, committing two errors which lead to four unearned runs.
Rhiannon Mendez responded for the Bearcats in the bottom of the first, blasting a two-run homerun, her second on the weekend, to pull SBU within two. However, pitching would take over for the final six innings securing a 4-2 victory for Lincoln.
SBU is back in action on Monday, April 4 as they travel to Missouri Western. The double-header against the Griffons is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. from St. Joseph, Missouri.
