Hays, Kan. - The SBU Bearcats finished thier four game series with the Tigers of Fort Hays on Sunday in Hays. In game one of the double-header the Bearcats collected 10 hits and recived a solid complete game effort from starting pitcher Jared Berman.
In game one of the double-header Berman took the mound for the Bearcats. After giving up a run in the bottom of the second inning, the Bearcats responded with 3 of their own runs in the top of the third. The Bearcats scored their first run off of an error by Fort Hays, and then Padden Grubbs singled up the middle bringing home two SBU runners to give the Bearcats a 3-1 lead. Hays responded in the bottom half of the inning to tie the score up 3-3, and then they took the lead for good in the fifth as Fort Hays sealed a 4-3 game one victory.
In game two, Fort Hays jumped out to an early 7-0 before SBU responded with Nigel Morton hit a solo homerun in the top of the third to cut the lead to 7-1. With Hays up 8-1 in the sixth, SBU was able to cut into the lead by scoring a couple of runs off of a Niko Saladis single, and an rbi groundout by Grubbs. However, SBU was not able to pull any closer, and dropped the second game of the double-header 13-3 in seven innings.
SBU will be back in action on Friday March 22 when they host Missouri Western in Bolivar. The double-header is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
