Hays, Kan. - The SBU Bearcats battled the Tigers of Fort Hays State in the first of two double-headers this weekend in Hays. Tyler Christophel lead the way for the Bearcats, collecting three hits, a homerun, and two rbi in the first game against the Tigers.

In the first game for the Bearcats, Hays jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, and then added 10 more runs over the next four innings to go up 12-0. The Bearcats responded in the top of the top of the sixth off of an rbi single by Brendon Cox, and an rbi walk by Dominic Bouvier. In the seventh inning, the Bearcats added a couple more runs off of a Christophel homerun, to bring the Bearcats within eight runs, however SBU dropped the first game, 12-4. Christophel had an excellent game going 3-4, with a homerun, two rbi, and a stolen base.

SBU was able to jump out on top in game two off of an rbi single by Niko Saladis to give the Bearcats an early 1-0 lead. Fort Hays was quick to respond, tying up the game in the bottom of the first with a run of their own. From that point forward, Hays racked up six more runs, to come away with a 7-1 victory over the Bearcats.

SBU will be back in action tomorrow afternoon for another double-header against Fort Hays State. Opening pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
