St. Louis, Mo. - The SBU softball team traveled to St. Louis to take on the Saints of Maryville. SBU continued to battle in both games, showing strong hitting performance from
Krysta Baderdeen who hit .500 in the series.
In the first game,
Josie Rose took the circle for the Bearcats. Rose continues to strike out opponents at a great rate, striking out 6 batters in 5.1 innings in tonight's contest. Rose gave up eight runs on the game, allowing only two earned, as the Saints pushed the lead to 6-0 in the fifth innings scoring five runs, all unearned, with the Bearcats committing three errors in the inning. SBU wasn't able to catch up, and dropped the first game of the double header 8-0.
In the second game the bats came alive for the Bearcats. Maryville was up 1-0 in going into the fifth before Maryville scored 5 runs in the bottom half of the fifth. SBU was able to responid in both the sixth and seventh innings of the game. SBU scored one run in sixth off of a Rhianna Mendez rbi single, and two in the seventh off of a Baderdeen single. However, the Bearcats comeback fell short as they lost the second game of the double-header 6-3. On the game Baderdeen went 3-3 with two rbi and one walk safely reaching base in every at-bat.
SBU will continue their road trip as they travel to Emporia, Kansas on Saturday, March 23 as they take on Emporia State.
