Kirksville, Mo. - The SBU women lost a hard fought battle against Truman this Saturday, 64-76 in Kirksville. The Bearcats were able to fight back a 15 point Bulldog advantage, cutting their lead to 2, but the Bulldogs were able to hold the Bearcats off for the final 4 minutes of the matchup and secure the victory.
For the second game in a row Southwest Baptist had multiple women score in double figures. the Bearcats were lead by junior LaKendra Smith who scored 15 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, and had 3 steals. Senior Ashleigh Gallio played a great game, playing a game high 40 minutes, while scoring 13 points, shooting 50% from beyond the arc, and pulling down 7 rebounds. Sophomore Kourtni Williams posted 14 points, and junior Jaquavia Couch contributed 11 points in the loss.
As a team, the Bearcats shot 40.4% (23-57) from the field and a perfect 100% (12-12) from the stripe. After the loss, the Bearcats fall to 7-12 overall, and 4-11 in the MIAA.
Up next the Bearcats return home to face Emporia State University on Tuesday, February 8, 2011. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. at Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar.
