Bolivar, Mo. - The SBU Bearcats beat the Griffons of Missouri Western in dominate fashion, 98-78 and clinched an MIAA post-season tournament appearance in the process. With Nebraska-Omaha defeating Pittsburg State earlier in the day, SBU clinched the #8 seed in the tournament with their victory. "It was a great team effort," head coach Jeff Guiot stated about the victory. "We shot well and we guarded well."
The Bearcats were leading in scoring by senior
Kurt Koenig who scored 21 points off of 8 of 11 shooting from the field. Koenig also pulled down 6 rebounds in the win. Senior
Tomas Brock had a great last game at Meyer Sports Center, scoring 13 points and dishing out a season high 9 assists. Senior
Tremaine Hill also contributed 7 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. "I'm really happy for the seniors," coach Guiot commented.
To go along with the seniors' performances, sophomores
Jacob French and
Stephen Cotten both contributed 14 points in the victory.
As a team, the Bearcats shot 59.0% from the field, 54.8% from beyond the arc, and 90.0% from the stripe. The Bearcat bench outscored the Griffon bench 34-31.
Next up SBU will take on Missouri Southern in the 1st round of the MIAA post-season tournament. Tip-off is set for 12:00 p.m. from Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri on Thursday, March 3.
