Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University Bearcats were defeated 64-78 this afternoon by the University of Nebraska at Omaha Mavericks. "I thought we did a good job of guarding in the post," head coach J.C. Carter commented. A large part of the successful defense inside is credited to junior forward
LaKendra Smith.
Smith had the best game of her career, scoring a career high 28 points and pulling down a career high 18 rebounds. "She played a great game," head coach J.C. Carter stated after the game. "She's a bright spot for us down there. She played the whole game hard and I liked her attitude." This is Smith's second consecutive double-double and third straight game of scoring in double figures. Smith also had two blocks, one steal, and one assist.
As a team SBU shot 41.1% from the field and 70.0% from the free throw line. SBU's bench outscored UNO's bench 16-12 in the loss.
Next up SBU travels to Northwest Missouri for a battle of the Bearcats. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
