SBU Men Set to Take on Nebraska-Omaha in Live Televised Broadcast

Bolivar, Mo. - The Bearcats return home to face Nebraska-Omaha in a live televised video broadcast on MIAA TV. SBU looks to continue their way up the MIAA rankings and push towards post-season play. Fans can catch the game live on KBFL 99.9, or find live video online at www.AmericaOne.com.

The Coaches and the All-Time Series

SBU head coach Jeff Guiot continues in his seventh season on the Bearcat bench, where he has won three MIAA regular season titles, and compiled a 134-58 (.698) record. Coach Guiot has led the 'Cats to an MIAA Tournament appearance each season, and three NCAA Tournament appearnaces. Last season, SBU won 20 games for the third consecutive season, marking the first time in the history of the program the feat has been accomplished.

Derrin Hansen is in his sixth year as head coach of the Mavericks. His overall record stands at 106-66, leading the Mavericks to a 22-9 record last year. Before becoming head coach at UNO, Hansen was the assistant coach for seven years.

Nebraska-Omaha leads SBU in the all-time series, 4-1.

Last Time out for the Bearcats

The SBU Bearcats lost a heart breaker to #15 Fort Hays State Tigers, 77-82 in Hays, Kansas on Wednesday night. SBU was down one point with two seconds to go in the game, but Fort Hays was able to hit their free throws and seal the victory. “I am very proud of them,” head coach Jeff Guiot stated of his team after the game. “Tonight we showed some great growth as a team.”

The Bearcats were lead by seniors Tomas Brock and Kurt Koenig. Both players contributed 20 points a piece in the loss, and will continue to be a vital part of the Bearcats success. “We are going to be as good as our seniors are down the stretch,” coach Guiot stated after the game. Brock scored 15 of his 20 points in the second half, and hit multiple clutch free throws down the stretch to keep the Bearcats in the game. “He plays with a lot of heart,” coach Guiot commented about his senior guard.

Koenig was off to a hot start, posting 13 first half points, but ended the evening with 20 points off of six of nine shooting from the field, and three of four from beyond the arc. Sophomore forward Stephen Cotten contributed 15 points, had 5 rebounds, and 5 steals. “Steve was strong on both ends of the floor,” coach Guiot said. “He continues to get better.”

As a team, the Bearcats shot 43.9% from the field, 40.9% from beyond the arc, and 90.0% from the stripe. SBU had 10 steals, and were able to outscore Fort Hays' bench 29-18.

• As a team, SBU is ranked 2nd in the Nation for 3-point field goals made per game, averaging 11.2 per game.

• Junior guard Ryan Dougherty is the leading scorer for the Bearcats averaging 13.9 points per game, He also leads the Bearcats in field goal made (5.0 p/g), and total assists (78).

• Junior forward Robson Memnon along with sophomore forward Steven Cotten are the inside prescene for the Bearcats. The big men average a combined 15.8 points per game and 10.1 rebounds per game.

• Senior Tomas Brock and senior Kurt Koenig both put up 20 points in the loss at #15 Fort Hays. Brock was a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line.

• Freshman Lane Barlow, along with freshman Zach Kleine continue to make an impact for the Bearcats. The freshman duo average a combined 11.0 points per game.

• SBU is 11-14 overall and 8-11 in the conference. The Bearcats are ninth in the MIAA standings, and average 80.5 points per game (4th in the MIAA).

Scouting the Mavericks

Nebraska-Omaha is currently ranked third in the MIAA with an overall record of 15-7 (12-6 MIAA). UNO averages 81.5 points per game (3rd in the MIAA). The Mavericks also average 35.0 rebounds per game (7th in the MIAA) and 15.2 assists per game (5th in the MIAA).

Senior guard Tyler Bullock is the Mavericks' leading scorer, averaging 19.2 points per game. Bullock also averages 3.7 rebounds per game and 4.9 assists per game.
