Bearcat Women Travel to Hays to Take on Lady Tigers

- The SBU Bearcats will travel to Fort Hays this Wednesday (Feb.16) in hopes to get back in the winning track. The game can be found live on 99.9 KBFL, and streaming online at www.radiospringfield.com. A live webcast will be available as well, at www.AmericaOne.com.

The Coaches and the All-Time Series

SBU head coach J.C. Carter is in his third season on the Bearcat bench, where his teams have shown improvement each season. Last year's 10-18 mark was two games better than Carter's first year in Bolivar.

Tony Hobson is the sixth coach in the history of the Lady Tigers women's basketball. Hobson is in his third season as the Fort Hays State women's basketball head coach, his career record is 440-135 (.765) and he lead Fort Hays to appearances in the MIAA Tournament in his first two seasons.

Last Time Out for the Bearcats

The SBU Bearcats lost a tough match-up at Missouri Western on Monday night, 50-66. “The effort was pretty good,” head coach J.C. Carter stated about the Bearcats.

The Bearcats were lead in scoring by freshman Chasity Prince with a season high 13 points. “Chasity gave us great minutes offensively and defensively tonight,” head coach J.C. Carter stated about his freshman forward. “She plays hard. Three offensive rebounds, those are effort plays.” LaKendra Smith also scored 13 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in the loss.

Freshman guard Tanis Spani had an excellent defensive game, giving the Bearcats solid minutes while also grabbing 5 rebounds. “Her effort never stops,” coach Carter said about Spani. “She plays hard all the time.”
As a team, the Bearcats 31.3% from the field, 23.3% from beyond the arc, and 42.9% from the stripe. SBU was able to force 12 turnovers and dished out 10 assists.

Quick Hits


• Junior Guard Lakendra Smith was on the court for 24 minutes and scored 13 points, leading the Bearcats in points alongside with Chasity Prince. Smith also had one assists and seven rebounds.

Chasity Prince played a solid game against Missouri Western State University . She not only scored a career high of 13 points but had two assists one steal and four rebounds.

• Senior Guard Ashleigh Gallio played another 40 minutes and was able to score 9 points, have four assists and five rebounds. Gallio averages a playing time of 36.5 minutes per game (2nd in MIAA).

Courtney Heady made two three-pointers against the Griffons. Heady also grabbed three rebounds. Whitney Malone had one assist, and four rebounds last Monday (Feb.12).

• The Bearcat women have an overall record of 8-14 (5-13 MIAA). Offensively SBU averages 64.4 points per game (9th in MIAA). Defensively SBU conceives an average of 65.9 points per game (9th in MIAA).

Scouting the Lady Tigers


Fort Hays State University is currently ranked 9th in the conference with an overall record of 11-11 (8-10 MIAA). The Lady Tigers have a .724 in free throw percentage (2nd in MIAA). Offensively the Lady Tigers average 63.8 points per game and defensively FHSU conceives 63 points per game (4th in MIAA).

Tracy Keyser leads the Lady Tigers in points with a average of 10.9 per game. Keyser also averages 3.4 rebounds per game.

Senior Forward Kara Champlin leads the Lady Tigers in rebounds with an average of 6.3 per game. She also averages a solid 8 points per game.
