The Coaches and the All-Time Series
SBU head coach Jeff Guiot continues in his seventh season on the Bearcat bench, where he has won three MIAA regular season titles, and compiled a 134-58 (.698) record. Coach Guiot has led the 'Cats to an MIAA Tournament appearance each season, and three NCAA Tournament appearnaces. Last season, SBU won 20 games for the third consecutive season, marking the first time in the history of the program the feat has been accomplished.
Starting his 10th season as Fort Hays men's basketball head coach, Mark Johson is ranked in the top 20 active NCAA Division II men's basketball coach in winning percentage (.688). Coach Johnson has guided the Tigers to nine conference post-season tournaments and has four NCAA Tournament appearances.
The all-time series between Fort Hays and SBU is tied 5-5.
Last Time Out for the Bearcats
The SBU Bearcats lost a heart breaker to Missouri Western, 88-96, in St. Joseph on Monday night. The Bearcats had 5 score in double figures in the loss.
SBU was lead in scoring by sophomore forward
Jacob French. French scored a season high 19 points, and grabbed 9 rebounds in the loss. “Jake stepped in there and played extremely well for us,” head coach Jeff Guiot stated after the game.
Ryan Dougherty had a solid all around ballgame, scoring 15 points, pulling down 5 rebounds, and dishing out 5 assists.
Tomas Brock had his second consecutive double digit night, scoring 12 points, and
Stephen Cotten scored 11 points and had 5 rebounds.
Lane Barlow received his second straight start, and responded well by scoring 10 points.
As a team SBU was able to force 17 turnovers and dished out 19 assists. The Bearcats shot 41.4% from the field, 30.6% from beyond the arc, and 90.5% from the stripe.

• SBU is 11-13 overall and 8-10 in the conference. The Bearcats are tied for seventh in the MIAA standings, and average 80.3 points per game (4th in the MIAA).
Scouting the Tigers
Fort Hays is currently ranked second in the MIAA, and 15th in the nation, with an overall record of 20-4 (14-4 MIAA). FHSU averages 83.9 points per game (1st in the MIAA) with a field goal percentage of .519 (1st in the MIAA). The Tigers also average 37.6 rebounds per game (3rd in the MIAA) and 18.8 assists per game (1st in the MIAA).
Senior guard Dominique Jones is the Tigers' leading scorer, averaging 17.8 points per game. Jones also averages 3.3 rebounds per game and 6.4 assists per game.
