Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist Bearcat women played a hard fought battle against #16 Washburn, but came up short in the end, 57-64.  SBU fought back from an 8 point halftime deficit to take the lead late in the second half, but couldn't hold off the #16 Lady Blues.

For the second game in a row, senior guard Ashleigh Gallio lead the Bearcats in scoring with 13 points, and also contributed 4 steals.  Senior guard Courtney Heady had an excellent game scoring 12 points, all in the second half, while shooting 50% from beyond the arc.  "Courtney Heady hit some big three's down the stretch" head coach J.C. Carter stated after the game.  Senior Whitney Malone added 11 points, while freshman Jacqui Zelenka contributed 9 points.

As a team, the Bearcats played an aggressive second half, holding the Lady Blues to 34.6% shooting from the field in the second half.  "We played a really good second half," coach Carter commented.  "We did a good job keeping them off the boards."  The Bearcats were able to collect 11 steals and force 16 turnovers.

SBU returns to action on Monday, February 14, 2011 when they travel to St. Joseph, Mo. to take on Missouri Western.  Tip-off is set from 5:30 p.m.
