SBU Women Force Double Overtime Against #23 Emporia State

- The SBU women's basketball team played a great game against #23 Emporia State in Bolivar on Saturday, forcing the game into double overtime, but came up just short in a 67-70 loss. Jacqui Zelenka continued her string of impressive performances, finishing with a team high 20 points.

The game would go back and forth throught the entire contest, with SBU having their largest lead of 10 coming early in the first half. From that point on, neither team would lead by double-digits in a game that had six lead changes. The Bearcats went into halftime with a 26-23 lead. The Hornets would go up two late in the second half until Zelenka hit a clutch fade-away jumper in the corner to force overtime at 57-57. Neither team provided much offense in the first overtime, with each team only scoring four points to force a second overtime at 61-61. Emporia State would finally get a little bit of breathing room extending their lead to four, and would eventually go on to a 70-67 victory.

Zelenka continued her impressive play, tying her career highs in both points, with 20, and rebounds, with 8, in the loss. Chasity Prince also scored in double figures with 14 while Samara Gallaher contributed a career high 7 points.

As a team the Bearcats shot 40.4% from the field, 33.3% from beyond the arc, and 82.4% from the free throw line. The Bearcat bench outscored the Hornets 19-7 and out-rebounded Emporia State 41-39.

"We are getting better and better, and today was a great effort for us," head coach Todd Voss commented. "I like our growth as to where we are as a team. Jacqui [Zelenka] had an incredible game. She made great decisions with the basketball, and made some really tough shots."

SBU will be back in action on Tuesday, January 3 when they host Washburn University. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. from the Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar, Missouri.
