Bolivar, Mo. - Ryan Dougherty collected his 1,000th point in an SBU uniform on Saturday night against Pittsburg State, but the Bearcats came up short 73-67. The Bearcats had three players in double figures in the loss.

The game was a game of runs for both teams. SBU took an early 11 point lead when they went up 19-8 with 12:54 left in the first half. Pittsburg State continued to battle and went into halftime with a 34-31 lead. The Bearcats continually battled throughout the night, but couldn't get over the hump, as they brought the score to within 1 point three times in the final three minutes. Pittsburg State would eventually hold on to the 73-67 win.

With 17:45 left in the game, Ryan Dougherty hit a three point shot to give him 1,001 points in his SBU career, 11 in the game, and once again played spectacular defense. Kyle Sloan was the leading scorer for the Bearcats with 16 points off of 7 of 14 shooting from the field. Robson Memnon added 11, and Daveion Zellner also added 9 for SBU.

As a team the Bearcats shot 43.1% from the field, 26.7% from beyond the arc, and 60.0% from the free throw line. The Bearcats forced 22 turnovers and had 15 assists in the game.

"The story this year is consistency," head coach Jeff Guiot stated after the game. "We have not been consistent for 40 minutes. Bottom line is we have to come back to work this week and we have to try and get better. We need to get the game experience and learn from it. The ball's got to go inside. When they made their runs tonight, the ball quit going inside. We have to keep our head's up and keep working."

The Bearcats will be back in action a week from Monday when they travel to Joplin, Missouri to take on #1 Missouri Southern. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. from Joplin.
