Warrensburg, Mo. -
Robson Memnon had a career night for the Bearcats, posting new career highs in points and rebounds against Central Missouri, but SBU came up short in game losing 75-70. The Bearcats would battle from being down as many as 12 in the game, but the comeback fell just short.
The first half went back and forth, with Central Missouri taking a 33-30 lead into halftime. The Mules pushed their lead to double-digits before the Bearcats fought back, bringing the game with 3 within the final minute. However, Central Missouri was able to hit free throws late to go on to a 75-70 victory. Memnon had a record setting night, posting new career highs in both points and rebounds giving the Bearcats 25 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. The guards spread out the offense evenly, with
Ryan Dougherty scoring 9,
Preston Guiot 9,
Kyle Sloan 8, and
Jake Littrel 10. As a team, the Bearcats shot 40.8% from the floor, 27.6% from beyond the arc, and 40.0% from the free throw line.
"Our kids played hard and I liked our effort tonight," head coach Jeff Guiot commented. "
Robson Memnon is getting better, and getting more confidence. I hope this is a game that he can use to take his game to the next level. I am really pleased with Rob's performance, and I hope it continues the rest of the season. Ryan guarded his tail off tonight against Boo Hunter, and gave everything he had. He's going to make you work to score and he can guard anyone in the country. He was just a warrior and a worker, we just can't say enough about our seniors tonight. As a team, they played pretty hard and I was proud of their effort. We are going to get better, and we are going to use this as a springboard to greater things."
The Bearcats will be back in action on Saturday, December 3 when they host Lincoln for SBU's home MIAA opener. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. from the Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar.
